This is a low gain drive pedal using the classic architecture of clipping diodes around an op amp. We included 5 different clipping modes as standard. This is based on the Durham Sexdrive, loved by country players for taking the ice pick out of their guitars.
The secret in this pedal is in the tone control and the mode switch. It doesn't have a “mid hump” like that other pedal has, and the tone control is perfect for taking the “brittle edge” out of single coil pickups into bright amps. So just turning the gain down on other pedals wont sound like this one.
GAIN controls the gain in the clipping stage, TONE controls the balance between treble and bass in the output and can be quite subtle, VOLUME adjusts the overall volume out of the pedal. MODE is a 5 way switch to select the different operating modes.
MODE position 1 will give you hard clipping, position 2 will give you asymmetrical medium clipping, position 3 will give you heavily asymmetrical soft clipping, position 4 is a Mozztronics special, try it out, position 5 is no clipping. In this mode you can use the DD-1 as a boost (like how SRV used his heavily modified green pedal).
