Limited Edition EarthQuaker Devices Fuzz Master General Custom Colour - Orange Brown
The EarthQuaker Devices Fuzz Master General is a modern reworking of the vintage Ace Tone FM-2 Fuzz Master - an octave fuzz circuit closely related to the legendary Super Fuzz. While it captures the unmistakable swelling octave grind of the original, it expands the concept into something far more flexible and usable in a contemporary setup.
At the core is an updated Fuzz control with a much wider sweep, moving from near-clean tones through to full-blown, ripping fuzz. A continuously variable Tone control replaces the original's fixed switching, letting you dial in anything from biting, treble-heavy attack to thick, scooped low-end.
A key addition is the three-way Voice toggle, which dramatically alters the character of the circuit by switching between different clipping styles. This has a major impact on feel, output level and octave response.
Voice Modes:
- Germanium (Mode 1): Open, loose and more dynamic with higher output
- Silicon (Mode 2): Tighter, more compressed and focused
- No Diode / Open (Mode 3): Pure transistor drive with a near-clean octave-up effect, bordering on ring modulation
Mode 3 delivers the most extreme response and significantly higher output - use with care and lower your level before engaging. For the strongest octave effect, use the neck pickup and play above the 12th fret. As with most analogue octave fuzz circuits, single notes track best, though chords can produce chaotic, aggressive textures.
With its expanded controls and tonal range, the Fuzz Master General offers a far more versatile take on a classic design while staying true to its raw, octave-laced roots.
