The Yamaha MODX8+ is a lightweight 88-key synthesizer with graded hammer action, designed for stage and studio performance. It features Yamaha’s AWM2 sample engine for detailed acoustic instruments, drums and classic synth sounds, alongside the FM-X engine for expressive digital synthesis inspired by the DX series.

Each engine provides 128-note polyphony, allowing complex performances without voice stealing. The AWM2 architecture includes multiple synthesis layers, filter types, envelopes, LFOs and insert effects per part, while the FM-X engine expands on traditional FM synthesis with an eight-operator design capable of both vintage digital tones and modern electronic textures.

Motion Control and the Super Knob enable real-time sound shaping and evolving modulation, while Smart Morph allows seamless blending between FM-X sounds. The MODX8+ also includes 1.75 GB of user flash memory for custom samples and libraries, plus a wide range of onboard effects including reverbs, modulation, amp simulations and creative processors.
