Make Noise Soundhack Plexiphon Stereo Spatial Texturiser
Plexiphon is a stereo spatial texturiser developed by Make Noise in collaboration with Tom Erbe of Soundhack. Rather than separating itself into fixed delay or reverb modes, Plexiphon operates as a continuously morphing space processor where echoes, reverberation, diffusion, feedback networks, and unstable spatial textures all exist within the same fluid algorithmic structure.
At one extreme, Plexiphon behaves like a multi-tap echo. At another, it becomes an expansive reverberant processor. Between those points lies its real character: dense, shifting spatial textures that exaggerate and reveal details hidden within the source material itself.
The central Plexus control simultaneously alters the number of feedback paths within the algorithm and the complexity of their interaction. Combined with the Size parameter, which behaves somewhere between delay time and virtual room scaling, Plexiphon moves smoothly between tightly clustered reflections, unstable rhythmic echoes, smeared ambience, and diffuse harmonic clouds without any mode switching or abrupt algorithm changes.
Diffuse and Color shape the tonal and temporal response of the processing network over time, allowing textures to soften, sharpen, darken, brighten, or dissolve dynamically as signals recirculate through the feedback structure.
Stereo processing is equally flexible. Couple continuously moves between isolated dual mono operation and fully interwoven stereo behaviour, while Skew offsets or links parameter behaviour across the left and right channels for asymmetrical spatial movement and animated stereo imaging.
A dedicated Send gate input determines when audio is introduced into the feedback network, making Plexiphon particularly well suited to dub-style echo techniques, rhythmic insertion effects, and dynamically controlled ambience.
An onboard envelope follower provides a CV output derived from the processed signal, allowing Plexiphon to feed modulation back into itself or elsewhere within a Eurorack system.
Built specifically for Make Noise's latest digital platform using entirely new code from Tom Erbe, Plexiphon is less a conventional effect module and more a continuously variable spatial instrument for modular synthesis, sound design, performance processing, and experimental mixing.
